Teaching Data Analysis and Probability Chapter 3- Analyzing Data with Fathom
Teachers examine a large multivariate random sample of automobiles manufactured in 2015. They pose questions, decide which variables can be used to answer those questions, and then focus on a question that will involve analysis of distributions a quantitative attribute as well as comparison of distributions when a qualitative attribute is added to separate distributions by categories. Analysis includes center and spread using dot plots, box plots, histograms, and interpreting results within the context of the data. The chapter includes a section developing the concept of standard deviation.Teachers consider pedagogical issues related to use of graphical representations, measures of center and spread, and dynamic statistical software.
