Preventing gender-based violence through education, activism, male engagement, and community partnerships. Marc A. Grimmett, PhD is the executive producer, co-director with filmmaker David Hambridge, and co-writer with Juliette Grimmett of Chrysalis Network, of the MY MASCULINITY HELPS FILM (MMH), an educational documentary that explores the role of African American men and boys in the prevention of sexual violence, which was supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women through the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NCCASA). MMH is qualitative research documentary scholarship (Grimmett, Conley, Foster, & Clark, 2018; Grimmett, M. A., Rowley, A., Williams, R. G., & Clark, C., 2021). Over 2,000 copies of MMH have been requested and distributed throughout the country (i.e., all 50 states and Washington, DC), as well as internationally (i.e., Botswana, Canada, England, Germany, England, Ireland, Italy) including by the United States military and Peace Corps. All states have coalitions against sexual assault and/or domestic violence that use MMH. In addition, hundreds of universities, colleges, schools, and community organizations have held screenings.
