Join us at this summer’s summit, where the spotlight will be on integrating data science and statistics into the preparation of future mathematics teachers! This event will bring together approximately 50 faculty who want to lead the way in preparing secondary math teachers to teach the crucial data science and statistical tools needed to excel in the modern world. The summit will dive into the evolving landscape of teacher education programs, highlighting institutions that have recently made changes to programs to better align with the needs of today’s learners. We will explore innovative curriculum materials and cutting-edge technology tools and hear from influential national and state organizations driving the transformation of high school math education, with a greater emphasis on data science and statistics. Attendees will expand their network and leave with actionable strategies to elevate their own programs. Who is the summit for?

Open-minded, change-making faculty involved in preparing future secondary mathematics teachers are encouraged to apply, either individually or as a team of two from the same institution. Partnering with a colleague can enhance the capacity and commitment to driving change, enabling impactful transformation at both the course and program levels.

Schedule Overview

Day 1Day 2
The first day will focus on incorporating preparation to data science and statistics into mathematics teacher preparation. Participants will hear from national and state experts about modernizing high school mathematics and learn from institutions that have updated their courses or programs.The second will include breakout sessions focused on curriculum materials, technology tools, and networking. Participants will explore various resources and have time for discussions, setting actionable goals, and developing strategies to advance their teacher preparation programs effectively.

Travel and Accommodations

Participants will receive a $750 stipend for participating. In addition, ESTEEM will support travel costs for two nights of hotel accommodations, mileage, or airfare transportation, as well as provide lunches and per diem for dinners on the days of the summit.

*Must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident to receive the $750 stipend and travel costs.

The summit seeks faculty interested in incorporating the teaching of data science and statistics into mathematics teacher education programs. Preference will be given to those motivated to lead change in their programs and make an impact on mathematics teacher preparation.

While an institutional faculty partner is encouraged, individual faculty are strongly encouraged to apply.

Minimal pre-work will be required, and all necessary details will be provided to those accepted.
